Product Description:
The A4988 Step Motor Driver Board is Allegro's most useful microstepping dual bipolar step motor driver. It features current limiting, overcurrent protection, and five different microstep resolutions. It operates between 8-35V and can control motors up to approximately 1A per phase without cooling (heatsink or fan). With adequate additional cooling, it is rated at 2A per coil.
Specifications:
- Five different step resolutions: Full step, Half step, Quarter step, Eighth step, and Sixteenth step
- Adjustable current control allows you to set the maximum current output with a potentiometer, enabling the use of higher voltages to achieve higher step rates
- Intelligent decay mode selection automatically selects the appropriate current decay mode (fast decay or slow decay)
- Over-temperature thermal shutdown, under-voltage lockout, and crossover-current protection
- Short-circuit protection available
- Requires a logic voltage supply (3-5.5V) connected between VDD and GND pins, and a motor power supply (8-35V) connected between VMOT and GND pins
- The decoupling capacitors should be suitably close to the board, and the power supplies should be capable of delivering the expected currents (up to 4A for the power supply)
Note:
Do not attempt any wiring or motor connections while the driver is powered. It can cause serious damage to the driver. Disconnect the power before making motor connections or adjustments.
